How the tools work
- Distance and Area measure as you tap; Angle takes an arm, the corner and the other arm, and Walk distance two points, measured along the streets. Keep turns a measurement into a drawing.
- Rectangle squares as you draw: tap two corners along one side, then how deep it goes.
- Snap catches plot corners and edges; Right angles holds the next side square to the last one, and the first side square to the nearest plot edge.
- Sizes: while drawing, type a length (40, 40ft or 12m) for the next side, a rectangle's width and depth, or a circle's radius. With both of a rectangle's sizes typed it is placed whole, lined up with the nearest plot edge; Turn swaps its sides. Feet first shows feet and square feet first and takes plain numbers as feet.
- Arrow draws a line with a head (any line can have one), and Text writes a note on the map, in three sizes. Sun shows where the sun rises and sets from a point, on any day, and where it is now. Qibla shows the direction of the Kaaba from a point, and how far it is from square to the nearest plot edge.
- Compass: while you draw, a compass rose round the last point, and the next side held on north, north-east, east and the rest, or any whole 15°, with its direction named.
- More helpers (the Helpers list in Draw): Parallel to plot edges holds a side parallel or square to a plot edge near by; Setback lines show the plots' boundaries set in by a distance you choose, to snap to; Midpoints and extensions catch the middle of a side, a side carried on past its corner, and where those cross; Equal sides catches the last side's length (a rectangle's depth, its width: a square); Round lengths keeps sides to whole feet or half metres; Layout grid lays a grid over the plot you draw in; and on a phone the Magnifier: press and hold, slide, and let go where the point goes.
- Guide line: tap two points for an endless dashed line to draw by; every tool snaps to it and to where guides cross. Take them away in the Draw tab, or with Backspace while the Guide tool is in hand.
- Turn a drawing from its card: drag it round on the map (it catches plot edges and 15° steps), turn it 15° or 90° at a time or by an angle you type, or Line up its longest side with the nearest plot edge. [ and ] turn the chosen one 15° (with Shift, 1°).
- Choose a drawing to name it, colour it, square its corners, offset it (a setback), divide it into equal plots, move, copy or delete it. Drag its points; add one with the dot between two.
- On a phone, turn on the crosshair to place points exactly in the middle of the map. The magnifier shows what is under the crosshair as you move the map, or press and hold where a point goes and slide to it under the magnifier. Press and hold the map for its position and the plot there.
- Drawings stay on this device. Share sends them as a link; whoever opens it gets a copy on theirs.
- On a plot, Walk here shows the way on foot from the ferry, from you, or from a point you tap. Press and hold the map for walking times from there.
- Tide times (the waves beside the map): the tide at the ferry terminal now, and any day's high and low water. Drag along the curve to read any moment, pick a day or a date, and see when the spring and neap tides come.
