Maldives Atlas · contributors

Contributor terms

The atlas gets better when people who know these islands and waters correct it. These are the few rules that keep it trustworthy.

What to send

  • Corrections to names — in English and in Dhivehi — positions, and what a place is.
  • Places the atlas is missing: harbours, jetties, dive sites, wrecks, navigation marks and the like.
  • How you know: you were there, a sign, a published chart, the name people actually use.

What not to send

  • Anything copied from another map, chart or website you do not have the right to share — including Google Maps and commercial charts. Your own knowledge and observations are what the atlas needs.
  • Personal information about anyone: private homes, phone numbers, names of people.
  • Advertising, or anything you know to be untrue.

How editors decide

Every suggestion is read by an editor before anything changes. Editors may accept it, change it or decline it, and will tell you which. Nothing obliges the atlas to publish a suggestion. Accounts that send spam or deliberate errors are suspended.

The licence

What you send becomes part of the atlas once an editor accepts it. You grant Oneconnect Pvt Ltd (Dhuveli) and everyone who uses the atlas the right to publish, adapt and share it under the ODbL 1.0, and you confirm it is yours to give. Corrections to places that come from OpenStreetMap stay under the Open Database License (ODbL 1.0), as that data is.

Not for navigation

The atlas is a reference. It is not a navigational chart, and contributions do not make it one.
